(Rockauto not amazon, brand name not generic, let's be smart.)What a time to be alive. Total cost (including non-California-approved chlorinated brake cleaner) less than a hundred bucks, shipped to my home. Old pads were maybe 40% worn, nice and even wear, old rotors were slightly scuffed. Full ceramic pads, brand new rotors (turning reduces mass, brakes convert motion to heat, losing mass is bad). Semi-metallic pads were a new thing at the time (so of course that's what I got).Yesterday after the conclusion of a 3-day road trip in my spouse's vehicle, decided it was finally time to install the front pads and rotors I ordered last year (mild pedal pulsation not getting any better, big surprise). ToolGuy When I was a teenager replacing my own front brakes on my first car (four decades ago), I seem to recall paying $30 per side to have the brake rotors turned, plus waiting around at the shop for them to do it, plus the cost of new pads and a trip to the physical store to buy them.It might be entitled the stupid things that you do when your young and have more money than brains. Traded a 76 Corvette for it and then traded the T-Bird to get a customized disco style van (another story for later). Each morning when you went to start it one or both of the hideaway headlight flaps would be raised (think that they ran on a vacuum system). Bad starter and bad alternator right out of the factory. Unfortunately the darn thing was a true lemon. In its day I would say it was comparable to how a 5 Series BMW is viewed today as far as status/prestige and the type of person who would buy one. T-Birds still had a lot of carry over prestige at the time. It was an aspirational car, considered a 'personal luxury vehicle', combining all the available creature comforts with a big V-8. Personally back then I loved the look, as did my peers. Even the floor mats had white thunderbirds embossed on them. Silver/grey exterior and matching interior with split bench seats. 351 engine, velour interior and most of the available options.
